The government maintains its unequivocal commitment to fulfilling the obligations related to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, declared Prime minister Nicolae Ciuca during the meeting of the Coordination Committee of the PNRR, held on Monday at the Victoria Palace, which was attended by guests and officials from the European Commission, according to a Government release, Agerpres reports.

The premier’s messages focused on aspects related to the fulfillment of the goals and milestones assumed by Romania within the PNRR, in the new context created by the overlapping crises facing the whole of Europe.

„The head of the Executive requested the ministers to find solutions for the implementation of the necessary milestones in order to advance the second payment request. The reforms that the PNRR involves contribute to increasing Romania’s resilience, including by preparing society and the economy for the future,” the press release states.

He also reiterated the desire of the Executive to maintain a dialogue as close as possible with the experts of the European Commission, as he had recently conveyed to the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen, during his visit to Brussels.

In the context, he pointed out that the PNRR was designed as an instrument to respond to the crisis, to accelerate the post-pandemic recovery and that at the time of its approval, in September 2021, Europe was not facing the overlapping of the energy crisis with the inflation crisis and the of security generated by the war in Ukraine, considering, therefore, that certain milestones will have to be adjusted in order to respond to the multiple crisis.

„I think that it is an expression of the resilience of the Union itself, the ability to adjust its response where it is absolutely necessary. Romania considers RePower EU very important, as a tool to respond to the energy crisis, but also to ensure the strategic independence of the Union, especially in regarding the import of energy from Russia. Its reflection in the PNRR will have to have an impact in terms of ensuring the capacity of the member states to respond to the challenges generated by accelerated geopolitical events since the beginning of this year,” Ciuca also declared.
