A number of 90,000 trees are to be part of Romania’s first community forest, as part of an afforestation campaign that will be carried out between November and December by the MaiMultVerde Association, in Marsa (Giurgiu County), Talpa (Teleorman County) and in Giurgiu, according to Agerpres.

According to a press release of the environmental organization sent to AGERPRES on Monday, the initiative will unfold with the support of local authorities, over 600 volunteers and partner companies.

The autumn planting campaign, organized by the MaiMultVerde Association, started on 12 November, with the setting up of the Honey Forest in Marsa, Giurgiu county. „Honey Forest” means 20,000 acacias and mulberries that will bring pollinators to the area and help prevent soil degradation.

Moreover, in Talpa, Teleorman county, 25,000 acacia saplings will be planted in this afforestation campaign, as part of the „Romania plants for tomorrow” campaign. Thus, the last afforestation action of this year took place on 30 November, in Talpa, „The Community Day in Nature,” open to all those who wanted to contribute to a greener future.

So far, a number of 135,000 trees and shrubs from 55 species have been planted in the Cama Community Forest, on an area of 20 hectares.

The community forest is a unique concept in the country, which can become an example of good practices in setting up urban forests in direct relation with the communities and local administrations which they serve. The project was rewarded, in 2022, by the Civil Society Gala, with the 2nd prize in the Environment Protection category.
