The minister of Internal Affairs, Lucian Bode, said that the vote against Romania’s accession to Schengen „is a vote against the EU as a whole” which will be enjoyed by „some non-EU actors”, according to Agerpres.
„The vote against the proposal of the Czech Presidency is not a vote against Romania, it is a vote against the EU as a whole and against our unity which, unfortunately, some non-EU actors will enjoy. In its long history, Romania has lived many injustices. Most of the time, Russia has shouldered the burden of carrying them out. We feel that Russia is about to enjoy yet another injustice done to Romania. (…) Do you think that it is not convenient for Russia that Romania is not fully integrated into the European Union area? It suits them,” said Lucian Bode, after the meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council in Brussels.
He added that accession to Schengen remains Romania’s national goal.
