Draft: Anastasia Law on drunk or unlicensed drivers killing peers with their car, straight to prison

Published on

Social-democrat senator Robert Cazanciuc announces that he has introduced in the parliamentary emergency procedure a draft law by which drivers found to be drinking and driving without a license and who cause fatal accidents should be jailed, Agerpres reports.

His reaction comes after an 11-year-old child, who was part of the group of six minors injured on Wednesday evening on a pedestrian crossing in Petrosani, died on Thursday in the local hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

„Unfortunately, another child died! On the first plenary day of the Senate, we will vote on the Anastasia Law! I requested and it was approved the emergency procedure for the law by which I proposed that those who get behind the wheel drunk and without a driver’s license, using a car to kill their fellow citizens, to go straight to prison!”, Cazanciuc wrote on Facebook.

The author of the accident in southwestern Petrosani, a 19-year-old man from Aninoasa, got behind the wheel after consuming alcoholic beverages, did not have a driver’s license and fled the scene. The young man was identified shortly within the radius of the city of Aninoasa. He was tested with the breathalyzer, which indicated a concentration of 0.81 mg/l of pure alcohol in the exhaled air.

After the death of the minor, the investigations were extended for manslaughter, bodily injury due to negligence, leaving the scene of a traffic accident without the consent of the police, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcoholic beverages and driving without a license, stated the spokesperson of IPJ Hunedoara, Bogdan Nitu .

The six children hit on the pedestrian crossing were between 11 and 14 years old.

On the 1st of June this year, a little girl of only 4, Anastasia, was killed right in front of the house she lived in, by a young woman of 19 who had no driver’s licence.
