Survey: Almost two thirds of Romanian companies expecting increased revenues in 2023

Almost two-thirds (65%) of Romanian companies are expecting an increase in their turnover in 2023, and seven out of ten entities (68.3%) estimate that they will end this year on larger teams, according to the findings of an ANIS Sentiment Survey – a survey carried out for the first time by the Employers’ Association of the Software and Services Industry, Agerpres informs.

According to the survey published on Friday, only 4.8% of the respondents are expecting a decrease in revenues this year, while 30.2% are expecting a turnover similar to that of 2022.

Also, 68.3% of the companies estimate that they will end 2023 on a larger team than in 2022, while 22.2% still do not know whether they will lay off or hire this year. At the opposite end, there are 9.5% of the respondents who say that they will downsize their Romanian teams.

The ANIS survey shows that in 2023, 61.9% of all the respondents believe that clients’ investment in IT projects will increase, and 38.1% estimate a decrease.

„On the one hand, the findings make us happy because they demonstrate that there is no crisis of the local industry, and the impact of the global one is relatively small. On the other hand, a good part of our members voice a certain degree of caution this year, both in terms of income and the predictability of the projects they work on. Only one indicator is certain: over 60% of companies want to hire, which can be explained by the enormous shortage of specialist staff perpetuated with each passing year. Our hope, as an employers’ association, is that this feeling of caution is one of the pessimistic scenarios of the industry and, at the end of 2023, after we draw the line, the balance will look very good,” says Corina Vasile, ANIS executive director.

Almost 50% of the association’s member companies participated in the ANIS survey. Of these, 23.8% are very large companies, with over 20 million euros in turnover, 23.8% with turnovers between 3 million euros and 20 million euros, 20.6% with revenues between 1 million and 3 million euros, and 31.8% with revenues below 1 million euros.

Founded in 1998, ANIS represents the interests of the Romanian IT companies and supports the development of the local software and services industry, the growth of both companies involved in outsourcing projects, and those that generate intellectual property by creating products.

The association has over 160 members – both small-sized enterprises and multinational companies – running on Romanian or foreign capital and headquartered in all the major IT hubs of the country, with more than 47,000 employees.

ANIS members generate a combined turnover in excess of 3.87 billion euros, the equivalent of over 65% of the total revenues generated by the IT industry nationwide.
