Car sales in Europe increased in January 2023 for the sixth month in a row, and the Dacia brand sold more cars than Peugeot or Renault, according to data published on Tuesday by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), Agerpres informs.

This association, which represents the 16 largest car manufacturers in Europe, reported that 911,064 cars were registered in January 2023 in the European Union, Great Britain and the EFTA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland), an increase of 10 .7% compared to January 2022.

In Romania, car registrations increased by 31.4% at an annual rate in January, up to 12,266 units. Higher percentage increases than in Romania were registered only in Greece (90.7%), Spain (51.4%) and Portugal (48.4%).

Among the main general car manufacturers, a significant increase of 24.6% in registrations was registered by the Renault group, which registered 88,636 cars. The performance of the Renault group is mainly due to the Dacia brand, where registrations increased by 42% at an annual rate up to 45,511 units, i.e. more than half of the sales of the entire Renault group.

According to ACEA data, last month, more Dacia cars were registered on the European car market than Skoda (43,919 units), Peugeot (42,538 units) or Renault (42,997 units). Currently, the Dacia brand controls a 6% share of the European car market, compared to 4.7% in January 2022.
