The deposits of non-governmental clients resident in Romania increased in January 2023 by 0.03pct compared to the previous month, up to the level of 513.502 billion RON, and by 7.2pct (-6.8pct in real terms), compared to the same period of the previous year, according to a press release of the National Bank of Romania (BNR), Agerpres informs.
Deposits in RON of residents, counting as much as 65.9pct in the total deposits of non-governmental clients, increased by 0.1pct compared to December 2022, up to 338.413 billion RON.
Household deposits in lei increased by 0.5pct compared to the previous month, up to 179.402 billion RON.
Deposits in lei of other sectors (non-financial companies and non-monetary financial institutions) decreased by 0.4pct (up to 159.011 billion RON) compared to the previous month.
Residents’ foreign currency deposits, expressed in RON, representing 34.1pct of the total volume of non-governmental clients’ deposits, decreased by 0.1pct compared to December 2022, reaching the level of 175.088 billion RON (expressed in euros, they increased by 0.4pct, up to 35.572 billion euros).
Foreign currency deposits of households, expressed in RON, decreased by 0.5pct compared to December 2022, up to 123.724 billion RON (expressed in euros, they increased by 0.02pct, up to 25.136 billion euros).
Foreign currency deposits of other sectors, expressed in RON, increased by 0.8pct compared to December 2022, up to 51.364 billion ron (expressed in euros, they increased by 1.3pct, up to 10.435 billion de euro).
