Ambassador Prokopchuk: Ukraine is grateful to Romania for multidimensional assistance provided

Ukrainian ambassador in Bucharest Ihor Prokopchuk conveyed on Monday to the plenary session of Parliament his country’s gratitude for the support provided by Romania on multiple levels, noting that the war started by Russia has claimed many lives, but Ukraine resists the Russian aggression and will emerge victorious, according to Agerpres.

I take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude to you and all Romanians for the quick response to the needs of the Ukrainians and for all the help provided in the last year, the Ukrainian ambassador told the joint Parliament sitting that marked one year since the start of the Russian Federation’s military aggression against Ukraine.

We appreciate Romania’s support for the Ukrainians, provided at all levels, by the people, the civil society, the private sector, Parliament and the government. Many of you were personally involved, he said, adding that Romania was at the front line of the humanitarian response from the very first hours of the war and provided consistent support in multiple areas.

Despite the suffering on the battlefield, Russia still maintains its initial goals – to destroy Ukraine’s statehood. Ukraine wants peace, it is not after shaping spheres of influence, but wants a lasting peace, according to the principles of the UN Charter. Ukraine resists aggression. We are still convinced that Ukraine will win, Prokopchuk said.

Solidarity with Ukraine is not a matter of moral choice of being on the right side of history, but an interest for all countries that believe in the principles of international law. It is clear that the stake is greater than Ukraine, it affects other countries and the entire Europe, he opined.

According to Prokopchuk, Ukraine is grateful to Romania for its assurances that it will provide assistance as long as necessary.

Despite the war, Ukraine is willing to discuss all the topics on the bilateral agenda, especially the rights of persons belonging to national minorities, the Romanian minority in Ukraine and the Ukrainian minority in Romania. We must strengthen bilateral relations and mutual understanding through interparliamentary relations, the diplomat pointed out, admitting in the end that the war will continue.
