Energy companies Transgaz and E.ON Romania signed on Thursday in Bucharest a Memorandum of Understanding under which they will cooperate for scaling up Romania’s energy security, by aligning and correlating natural gas infrastructure development strategies in the direction of the provisions of the European Green Deal and of the other relevant European regulations, write Agerpres.
According to a joint release, the MoU provides for specific collaboration along several coordinates, highlighting the companies’ interest in developing new directions of cooperation by identifying and engaging in projects of common interest, with a view to developing and transforming the natural gas transport and distribution infrastructure for the long-term supply of consumers with clean energy.
„The National Gas System Operator Transgaz has always been at the vanguard of Romania’s energy security development. We managed this through the interconnection projects, through the partnerships concluded, through the company’s developments. We have paid heed from the very beginning to the implications the European Green Deal and the new fuels will have on the European energy sector.
That is why we decided to conclude this collaborative partnership with E.ON, because together we can generate a symbiosis that will strengthen Romania’s energy security. Transgaz has proven that it is capable of implementing complex investment projects of major importance, under economic efficiency and operational safety. Through the future projects, we will continue the mission we have taken up with the same responsibility towards performance, competitiveness and sustainable development of the Romanian energy sector,” Transgaz CEO Ion Sterian declared.
Among the targeted goals is the definition of a joint action plan for strengthening and expanding the natural gas infrastructure in accordance with the strategic decision of considering natural gas a transition fuel, and speeding up research into the role the national gas infrastructure has in accommodating green gas – hydrogen in particular, by exchanging information of interest.
„We want to bring E.ON Group’s European know-how together with that of Transgaz for the development of technologies and of a resilient national infrastructure, well-prepared for the challenges of the future. Together with the existing natural gas infrastructure, the transition to clean energy can be much more efficient in terms of costs, and the benefits for strengthening long-term energy security are obvious,” said E.ON Romania Volker Raffel.
