Number of beneficiaries of social assistance increases by 289 people, in March 2023

The number of beneficiaries of social assistance aid (guaranteed minimum income) was 165,714 in March 2023, up 289 from the previous month, according to data centralized by the National Agency for Payments and Social Inspection (ANPIS), write Agerpres.

Most beneficiaries were registered in Dolj (10,461), Bacau (9,285), Buzau (7,707) and Teleorman (7,756) and the fewest in Bucharest (255) and the counties of Ilfov (857) and Timis (1,348).

The average amount paid in March by the Romanian state to the beneficiaries of social assistance was 305.49 RON, while the total amount paid amounted to 50.623 million RON.

The highest value of the average amount paid (current rights) was registered in the counties of Salaj (402.05 RON), Brasov (370 RON) and Mures (368.9 RON).

The guaranteed minimum income (GMI) is one of the most important programmes for promoting social inclusion and combating poverty. The normative act which regulates this programme is Law No. 416/2001 regarding the guaranteed minimum income, with subsequent additions and amendments.

According to this law, the minimum guaranteed income is ensured by granting a monthly social aid, which is calculated as the difference between the level of the minimum guaranteed income provided by the law and the net monthly income of the family or the single person.
