Romania’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development represents a major objective for Romania, and the government is taking all the necessary steps to implement the reforms assumed by the roadmap, said the minister of Economy, Florin Spataru, on Tuesday evening, at the meeting with Alvaro Pereira, chief economist and director of the organization’s Economy department, informs a press release from the Ministry of Economy, sent to AGERPRES, write Agerpres.

Minister Spataru discussed with the OECD delegation, led by Pereira, the steps that Romania has to take for accession, with an emphasis on aspects related to the activity of the ministry, such as the consolidation of corporate governance and the promotion of sustainable economic development, increasing productivity, competitiveness and innovation.

„We welcome the launch of the assistance project regarding the establishment of the National Productivity Council, which will bring us one step closer to achieving this objective. For its part, the Ministry of Economy is working on the development of economic policies that lead to sustainable development, centered on the principle of equality of chances. At the same time, we have implemented three state aid schemes to increase economic competitiveness, addressed to the industry affected by the crises of recent years. There is no resilience and stability without industry!” said Florin Spataru.

„Romania has already went through a large part of the road to joining the OECD, which could bring many economic, social and political benefits for our country, offering numerous opportunities for cooperation and exchange of experience with the other member countries,” the ministry’s statement also says.
