Romania has committed to increase the number of pilots to around 60 on the Sulina Canal and to accelerate the project related to the navigability of this canal, so that finally, in October-November, the European project of approximately 17 million euros will lead to navigability 24 of 24 hours, stated the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, in the context of the Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports, write Agerpres.

Referring to the meeting on Friday, August 11, in Galati, which was attended by representatives of Ukraine, the US embassy in Bucharest, the US embassy in Kyiv, and the European Commission, Grindeanu said that the purpose of the meeting was that, in the moment when the situation at the Danube ports of Ukraine will continue, in a scenario where all installations and all activity will be affected, to think of some solutions. But, he added, „We cannot force the Ukrainians to come and use the Romanian ports on the Danube. It’s their decision, it’s Ukraine’s decision, but we showed the advantages of using both Galati Port and Braila Port. Moreover, I presented a plan even related to the Danube ports in the south of the country. Why? It may seem strange, but using the railway infrastructure you can take those train sets, including to the ports in the south of the country and on the Danube, you can transport them to Constanta and in the Black Sea. This was the point of this meeting,” said Sorin Grindeanu during a press conference.

He mentioned that another meeting will take place around September 15, in Constanta, on the same topic.
