Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu had a discussion with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Athens on Monday about Romania’s security challenges at the Black Sea, the country’s efforts in the context of the war in Ukraine, the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the accession to the Schengen area, write Agerpres.

„We presented the current situation at our country’s borders and argued the need for additional financial support for Romania in the current context that requires speeding up the development of infrastructure. I also highlighted the developments regarding the implementation of the PNRR, namely certain milestones with fiscal-budgetary measures in this plan negotiated by former right-wing governments, as well as the situation of public finance and the Government’s intention to keep the deficit within reasonable limits without affecting the economy and the population,” Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.

PM Ciolacu also pointed out that he asked the President of the European Commission to intensify joint efforts for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area.
