AgriMin Barbu attending AgriFish Council meeting

Romania’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Florin-Ionut Barbu is attending today an AgriFish Council meeting in Brussels, with the main items on the agenda being the situation of agricultural markets, especially in the aftermath of the invasion of Ukraine, and the second year of implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) strategic plans.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the ministers will also exchange views on the upcoming annual consultations between the EU and the UK on fishing opportunities for 2025 and discuss a European Commission proposal to update fishing opportunities for 2024 and 2025.

„Based on information from the European Commission and member states, agriculture ministers will discuss the agricultural markets situation, a recurring topic on the council’s agenda. Based on information from the Hungarian presidency, the council will hold a public discussion on the second year of implementation of the strategic plans of the common agricultural policy (CAP). The fisheries ministers will exchange views on the upcoming EU-UK annual consultations on fishing opportunities for 2025, as well as on the EU-Norway and coastal states annual consultations for the coming year,” according to the ministry.

The council will alsodiscuss a European Commission proposal to update the fishing opportunities for 2024 and 2025 for certain fish stocks, in order to take account of the latest scientific advice and recent developments.

Among the other business items on the agenda, the Hungarian presidency will publicly provide the Council with information on: the EU-Western-Balkans summit on veterinary services (Budapest, 11 September 2024), the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) Committee on Forestry (Rome, 22-26 July 2024), the FAO Committee on Agriculture – livestock subcommittee (Rome, 16-18 July 2024).
