Air passenger transport increases 6% in 2024

Air passenger transport increased 6% in 2024, reaching 26,000,800 passengers, up from 24,536,800 passengers in the previous year, according to National Institute of Statistics (INS) data.

The largest shares in passenger transport were recorded at Henri Coanda-Bucharest Airport, with 7,981,300 passengers boarding and 7,958,600 passengers disembarking; Avram Iancu-Cluj-Napoca, with 1,648,300 passengers boarding and 1,617,900 disembarking; and Iasi International Airport, with 1,101,700 passengers boarding and 1,094,000 passengers disembarking.

Regarding international passenger transport, the top ten airports of origin (from which passengers disembarked in Romania), ranked by the number of passengers on regular flights, were London Luton (1,043,675 passengers), Milan-Bergamo (648,394 passengers), Munich (434,124 passengers), Brussels Charleroi (377,350 passengers), Paris Beauvais (374,608 passengers), Istanbul International (362,276 passengers), Vienna (328,589 passengers), Rome Fiumicino (324,742 passengers), Barcelona (293,874 passengers) and Madrid Barajas (291,668 passengers).

Regarding boardings, the highest number of passengers on regular flights boarded for London Luton (1,033,892 passengers), Milan Bergamo (647,398 passengers), Munich (443,738 passengers), Brussels Charleroi (386,207 passengers), Paris Beauvais (382,677 passengers), Istanbul International (357,704 passengers), Vienna (338,805 passengers), Rome Fiumicino (323,899 passengers), Barcelona (299,674 passengers) and Madrid Barajas (284,975 passengers).

The main countries (by airport of origin) from which passengers on regular air flights disembarked in Romania were Italy (2,363,237 passengers), the United Kingdom (1,833,176 passengers), Germany (1,409,716 passengers), Spain (1,092,299 passengers), France (806,948 passengers), Turkey (510,556 passengers), Belgium (433,524 passengers), and Greece (383,902 passengers).

By destination country, the most passengers on regular flights boarded for Italy (2,357,340 passengers), the United Kingdom (1,831,022 passengers), Germany (1,455,000 passengers), Spain (1,094,145 passengers), France (820,566 passengers), Turkey (496,461 passengers), Belgium (448,845 passengers) and Greece (381,682 passengers).

The largest shares in domestic transport were recorded at Henri Coanda-Bucharest Airport, with 49.8% of the total number of passengers boarded, Avram Iancu-Cluj-Napoca, with 17.6% of the total number of passengers boarded, and Traian Vuia-Timisoara, with 14.4%.
