Airspace is defended, but legislative amendments needed on drones (president of Senate Defence Committee)

Members of the Senate Defence Committee and representatives of the Ministry of Defense (MApN) discussed on Wednesday the completion of the legislation on the response capacity to the entry into Romanian airspace of hostile or unmanned drones.

„We all agreed during the debate that the entering of a Russian drone in the airspace over a distance of about 40 km, for a period of 40 minutes, can be considered a vulnerability, in the context of the lack of legislation that would talk about current rules of engagement. We have discussed the urgency of adopting draft laws that would allow the MApN to fulfill their missions,” said the president of the Senate Defence Committee, Nicoleta Pauliuc. She specified that the Defence Ministry has four draft laws under approved, set to be approved in emergency procedure.

The National Liberal Party (PNL) senator also said that „there is no danger that we would not be able to fulfill our missions, the airspace being defended, as we are part of NATO”.
