The Permanent Electoral Authority announced on Tuesday that 18,974,516 citizens with the right to vote were registered in the electoral register on August 31, being 3,931 fewer than last month, when 18,978,447 Romanian voters appeared in this register, AEP reads in a statement.

The differences appear as a result of the current operations carried out by the mayors in the Electoral Roll.

In August, 23,347 people were removed from the electoral register at the level of the town halls, as a result of death, as well as 125 people who were forbidden to exercise the right to vote or who were banned.

At the same time, 69 people regained their electoral rights as a result of the expiry of the erasure period.

The number of voters who turned 18 in the same period is 19,472, and they are registered in the Electoral Register ex officio, by the Permanent Electoral Authority, based on the communication of the General Directorate for the Records of Persons (DGEP), the AEP states.

AEP also mentions that, of the total number of Romanian voters appearing in the Electoral Register, 18,014,735 have their domicile or residence in the country, and 959,781 have their domicile abroad and are CRDS passport holders.

According to Law no. 208/2015, the Electoral Register is a national IT system for recording and updating the identification data of Romanian citizens with the right to vote and the information regarding their attendance at the polling stations.
