Almost 280,000 people affected by the war started by Russia in Ukraine entered the European Union this year through the border crossing point at Isaccea – Tulcea County; traffic picked up lately and truck drivers face waiting times of at least three days before they reach the customs office for clearance, according to data provided to Agerpres by the Coast Guard.

Of the almost 280,000 people who entered Romania through Isaccea until Friday, about 260,000 are Ukrainians, and the total number of incoming transport means registered by the border police is about 70,000.

Coast Guard spokesman Andrei Ene stated for Agerpres that about 1,100 people with about 280 vehicles entered Romania through the Isaccea customs point on December 29, and approximately 700 people with about 195 vehicles left Romania for Ukraine.

„Traffic at the Isaccea border crossing point is higher, but doesn’t exceed the capacity of the Border Police to handle it both on the inbound and outbound. We work at normal capacity and are prepared for any traffic values that may arise,” the Coast Guard representative said.
