At a meeting on Thursday with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, Germany’s ambassador in Romania Peer Gebauer reiterated his country’s support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen agreement, according to a press release of the German Embassy, write Agerpres.
Also participating in the meeting was Senate Chairman Nicolae Ciuca. The dialogue between the officials focused on the „special challenges” in terms of security in the Black Sea region. Gebauer thanked Romania for the support extended to Ukraine and Moldova since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, with special importance being given to Romania’s support for the export of grain from Ukraine through the European Solidarity Lanes, as well as by expanding the necessary infrastructure.
The officials mentioned that on September 28 and 29, a German-Romanian economic conference will take place in Berlin, „intended to stimulate co-operation and investment from the two countries.” Gebauer once again expressed his hope that Romania will join the Schengen area as soon as possible, giving assurances about Germany’s support for the goal. „Romania is an essential partner and ally of Germany, with whom we collaborate both economically and in terms of European security and politics, based on a relationship of great trust,” said Gebauer.
