The public and cultural diplomacy project of the Targu Mures Philharmonic, in which the State Philharmonic Orchestra will perform on 8 November 2024 in Vienna, in the Golden Hall of the MusikVerein, goes far beyond the borders of the European Union, Romania’s ambassador to Austria Emil Hurezeanu told a press conference on Thursday at the Romanian Embassy in Austria, according to a press release issued by the Association for Community Development Iunona, organiser of the event, sent to AGERPRES.
On this occasion, His Excellency Emil Hurezeanu highlighted the intercultural dimension of this public and cultural diplomacy project which goes far beyond the borders of the European Union. The concert brings together works by two composers and friends born in Romania – George Enescu and Bela Bartok – but also bears the imprint of the Argentinian conductor, through the compositions of Astor Piazzolla”, reads the press release.
His Excellency Emil Hurezeanu said, according to the source, that the project of the Targu Mures State Philharmonic is a living example of the integrity of culture in a Europe in constant change.
„It is said that at the end of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th century, Austria, and Vienna in particular, was a laboratory of modernity. But I am not exaggerating when I say that Romania was – long before joining the European Union in 2007 – a Europe avant la lettre,” stressed Ambassador Emil Hurezeanu.
The institutional partners of the project are the Romanian Embassy in the Republic of Austria, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Vienna and the Mures County Council.
„We have selected George Enescu and Bartok Bela for the programme. Both composers have professional ties with the city where the Orchestra comes from, Targu Mures, and with Vienna, but at the same time they represent an example of collaboration and friendship that spanned throughout their careers. Both have promoted Romania musically and have managed to convey this message on many of the world’s great stages. The works signed by Astor Piazzolla are reorchestrated by conductor Pablo Boggiano and complete an absolutely spectacular programme,” said Ovidiu Maior, president of the Association for Community Development Iunona.
The Targu Mures State Philharmonic Orchestra will perform on November 8, 2024 in Vienna, in the Golden Hall of the MusikVerein, being the first concert of an international tour that will include other European capitals.
The organisers say that the event in the Austrian capital is primarily aimed at the Austrian public, who will have the opportunity to get to know Romania in a special way, through an important cultural event, a cultural-diplomatic approach that allows the presence of a Romanian Philharmonic on the map of the great international stages.
