Tennis players Ana Bogdan, Jaqueline Cristian and Irina Begu have qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris, and they will represent Romania in the singles event, the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) informed on Wednesday.
„Three tennis players will compete in the singles event for Team Romania at the Olympic Games in Paris: Ana Bogdan, Jaqueline Cristian and Irina Begu. After the line has been drawn in the world ranking, on June 10, and the eligibility criteria of the International Federation have been validated, the three players were included in the Olympic Team and will play on clay at Roland Garros,” states the announcement published by COSR on the official Facebook page.
Romanian tennis could have another representative in Paris, in the women’s doubles competition. „Monica Niculescu is also waiting for reassignment in the women’s doubles competition,” the cited source further informs.
Team Romania reached 105 qualified athletes at the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11), in 18 sports.
