Ana Bogdan, Jaqueline Cristian and Irina Begu, qualify for Olympic Games in Paris

Tennis players Ana Bogdan, Jaqueline Cristian and Irina Begu have qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris, and they will represent Romania in the singles event, the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) informed on Wednesday.

„Three tennis players will compete in the singles event for Team Romania at the Olympic Games in Paris: Ana Bogdan, Jaqueline Cristian and Irina Begu. After the line has been drawn in the world ranking, on June 10, and the eligibility criteria of the International Federation have been validated, the three players were included in the Olympic Team and will play on clay at Roland Garros,” states the announcement published by COSR on the official Facebook page.

Romanian tennis could have another representative in Paris, in the women’s doubles competition. „Monica Niculescu is also waiting for reassignment in the women’s doubles competition,” the cited source further informs.

Team Romania reached 105 qualified athletes at the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11), in 18 sports.

The Romanian athletes qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games until this moment:

Athletics (12): Delvine Relin Meringor (marathon), Andrea Miklos (400 m), Alina Rotaru-Kottmann (long), Joan Chelimo Melly (marathon), Bianca Ghelber (hammer throw), Stella Rutto (3,000 m hurdles), Andreea Talos (triple vault), Diana Ion (triple vault), Alin Firfirica (discus), Alexandru Novac (javelin), Florentina Iusco (long) and Rares Toader (weight).

Boxing (1): Lacramioara Perijoc (cat. 54 kg);

Canoe (3): Catalin Chirila (C1 – 1,000 m), Ilie Sprincean, Oleg Nuta (C2 – 500 m);

Rowing (45 quota places): men’s single sculls, women’s double sculls, lightweight category, women’s double sculls, women’s double sculls, women’s four sculls, women’s four sculls, women’s 8+1, men’s double sculls, men’s double sculls, men’s four sculls , men’s four oars, men’s 8+1;

Cycling (1): Ede Molnar (mountain bike);

Artistic gymnastics (6): the female team (Ana Maria Barbosu, Sabrina Maneca Voinea, Lilia Cosman, Amalia Ghigoarta and Andreea Preda); Andrei Muntean;

Rhythmic gymnastics (1): Annaliese Dragan;

Weightlifting (2): Mihaela Cambei (cat. 49 kg) and Loredana Toma (cat. 71 kg);

Swimming (3): David Popovici (100 m free, 200 m free), Vlad Stancu (800 m free, 1,500 m free), Rebecca Aimee Diaconescu (200 m free);

Judo (1): Alex Cret (90 kg);

Wrestling (5): Andreea Beatrice Ana (freestyle wrestling, cat. 53 kg), Kriszta Tunde Incze (freestyle wrestling, cat. 62kg), Catalina Axente (freestyle wrestling, cat. 76kg), Alin Alexuc-Ciurariu (Greek wrestling -Romanian, cat. 130 kg), Razvan Arnaut (Greek-Roman wrestling, cat. 60 kg);

Water polo (13): 13 quota places – men’s team;

Fencing (1): Malina Calugareanu (foil);

Field tennis (3): Ana Bogdan (female singles), Jaqueline Cristian (female singles) and Irina Begu (female singles);
