Arrivals at Romania’s tourist accommodation establishments, including flats and rooms for rent, totalled 3.36 million in the first four months of 2024, up 1.9% y-o-y, according to data with the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Tuesday.
Overnight stays totalled 6.36 million, up 1.3%, y-o-y.
Out of the total number of overnight stays in the first four months, the overnight stays of Romanian visitors accounted for 79.6%, while the overnight stays of foreign visitors accounted for 20.4%.
The average duration of stay was 1.8 days for the Romanian visitors, and 2.2 days for the foreign visitors.
The net occupancy rate between January 1 and April 30, 2024, was 23.4%, down 0.5%.
Most of the foreign visitors in the first four months came from Italy (70,700 persons), Germany (54,000 persons) and the UK (36,800 persons).
The arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania recorded at border crossings between January 1 and April 30, 2024, were 3.91 million people, 1.53 million coming from other European Union countries. Bulgarians made up 36.5% of the EU citizens registered at Romania’s borders.
Road transport was the most used by foreign visitors (75.3% of total arrivals).
Departures of Romanian visitors abroad in the first four months were 5.67 million, 64.9% by road and 34.4% by air.
