At ‘Rebuilding Ukraine’ forum, MEP Dincu advocates Romania – Ukraine regional connections

A solid relationship between Romania and Ukraine can be created by hammering out local connections between the regions of the two countries, as Ukraine’s reconstruction is also an opportunity to change our way of thinking about the future, MEP Vasile Dincu on Monday told the ‘Rebuilding Ukraine’ forum, organized by the Romania – Ukraine Bilateral Chamber of Commerce.

„It is gratifying that we are already at the third edition [of the Rebuilding Ukraine forum]. Compared to the previous ones, there are already many concrete elements related to Romania – Ukraine relations which have been bolstered, enriched. (…) Efforts by the Foreign Ministry or the governments to establish diplomatic relations are in vain in absence of grassroots initiative, of participation from the civil society, which should unite and give consistency to these things. I attended last week a lively debate in the European Parliament about continuing support for Ukraine, I was very happy to see that what we feared two years ago, at the beginning of the Russian aggression, that Europe would grow weary of supporting Ukraine, did not happen. Europe is further united in determination. The Ukrainians are not alone in their fight for Europe. They are in the front line, as I told some German colleagues who were trying to challenge our support for Ukraine or for Moldova. (…) I’m very glad that the forum is moving forward, that this relationship is working,” Vasile Dincu said.

He emphasized that the entire society needs a change, and the aggression against the Ukrainian people is a sign that the world undergoes a major change.

The Romania – Ukraine Bilateral Chamber of Commerce is organizing on October 14 – 15, in partnership with the Embassy of Ukraine in Romania the ‘Rebuilding Ukraine’ forum having as major topics of discussion the challenges of Ukraine’s reconstruction in the current context, options and challenges related to the financing process, considerations regarding the instruments to be put to work for the implementation of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s peace formula, the interest of the economically highly developed countries into the investments that will create the foundation for Ukraine’s reconstruction process.

Debates also tackle the impact on food and energy security, bilateral multimodal transport as an essential pillar of global food security, the main challenges of the reconstruction of Ukraine in the current context, as well as options and challenges related to the financing process, the international legal-economic framework of the post-conflict reconstruction, the role of Romania in the said process.
