Bolojan, meeting with future German Chancellor: We discussed opportunities for cooperation, including in defence industry

Romania’s interim President Ilie Bolojan said on Thursday that he discussed opportunities for cooperation, including in defence industry with CDU leader Friedrich Merz, the future German Chancellor.

„I was glad to meet CDU President Friedrich Merz today. I congratulated him on his important victory in the recent elections. We discussed how Romania and Germany can work together to make the EU stronger, more resilient and more secure in the current global context. We also stressed the importance of coordinating our efforts to ensure collective defence and deterrence. We discussed opportunities to intensify bilateral cooperation, including in the defence industry,” Bolojan wrote on the X platform.

Romania’s interim president is attending the special European Council on Thursday.
