Bookfest opens in Bucharest displaying hundreds of publishers, events, debates, novelties

The 17th edition of the Bookfest International Book Fair will be officially opened on Wednesday, at 12:00, in Pavilion B2 at Romexpo, northern Bucharest in a ceremony which officials from Romania and the Republic of Moldova were invited to.

In an edition that brings together 200 exhibitors and 150 publishing houses from Romania and the Republic of Moldova, the guest of honour this year, lovers of the written word will be able to attend over 400 events, new books signed by Petre Mihai Bacanu, Cristian Tudor Popescu , Gabriel Liiceanu, Radu Paraschivescu, Tatiana Niculescu being just some of the Bookfest 2024 attractions.

The publishing houses that will present new books, as well as debates on various topics, are Polirom, Humanitas, Pandora, Trei, Vremea, Curtea Veche, Corinth, Publishing House of the Romanian Academy.

Many of the publishing houses present at the book fair have already announced that they will have up to 80% discounts of the bookstore price.

The little ones are expected at the Bookfest Junior Club, where they will be able to take part in discussions about the latest books published for them, as well as thematic workshops, games and a raffle with surprise prizes.

A project co-financed by the Ministry of Culture, the Bookfest International Book Fair is organized by the Romanian Editors’ Association, under the auspices of the Romanian Editors’ Federation, under the High Patronage of the President of Romania.

At the previous international editions, Spain, Hungary, France, the German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Poland, the Czech Republic, Israel, Sweden, the United States of America, Great Britain, Japan and Italy were the invited countries.

The Bookfest Book Fair has local editions in Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Targu Mures, Brasov and another international edition in Chisinau.
