Bucharest City Mayor Nicusor Dan told a news conference on Monday in Iasi that he will not withdraw his bid for this May presidential election, even if another candidate of the political right emerges, and even if the interim president Ilie Bolojan also runs.
Asked if he will withdraw his candidacy for the Presidency of Romania if the interim president, Ilie Bolojan, decides to run, Dan replied that he has no such intention.
„I remain in the race in any case. Not out of pride. First of all, I answered the question if I am suitable for the bid, after which, in order not to confuse the world, I did a survey that confirmed the level of confidence I have in the opinions of Romanians. Already at this moment, when there are thousands of people who have volunteered, thousands of people who have made donations, there is no question of giving up,” said Dan, an independent candidate for the Presidency of Romania, backed by the People’s Movement Party (PMP) and the Right Force.
Dan also said that „as things look like today, there is no risk that two isolated candidates will enter the second round.”
The independent candidate has toured cities in the north-eastern province of Moldavia.
