Bucharest mayor files criminal complaint, accusing massively disseminated document seriously affected his image

Published on

The General Mayor of the Capital, Nicusor Dan, announced on Tuesday that he filed a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office next to the District 5 Court for committing the crimes of forgery in official documents and forgery.

The mayor emphasizes that his image was „severely affected” by the massive dissemination of the document according to which he collaborated with the Securitate former political police.

„Today I filed a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office near the District 5 Court of Bucharest for committing the crimes of forgery in official documents (Article 320 of the Penal Code) and forgery (Article 323 of the Penal Code), regarding to the document entitled ‘Report on the informational classification of citizens who travel to Australia on the occasion of the International Mathematical Olympiad’. I believe that my image was seriously affected by the massive dissemination on some mass media channels and social networks. Although the origin of this document is not known, the purpose of its dissemination is to alter the electoral competition and to mislead the voters,” said the general mayor, in a press release.

The National Council for the Study of Securitate Archives (CNSAS) stated on Tuesday that it did not release the document regarding Nicusor Dan’s supposed collaboration with the Communist political police (known as Securitate), but all the information contained in it will be checked „quickly”, considering the suspicions regarding its authenticity.

One day ago, the general mayor emphasized that he had no commitment to collaborate with the Securitate, and the National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives issued two certificates in this regard. He mentioned that the document that appeared in the public space and from which it would appear that he provided informational notes to the Securitate has „several factual inconsistencies”.
