The hot weather will persist in Bucharest for the next three days, with maximum temperatures reaching 39 degrees Celsius, according to the forecast published on Wednesday by the National Meteorological Administration (ANM).

Thus, between August 21, 10:00 – August 23, 10:00, in the capital it will be sizzling hot, leading to high thermal discomfort, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.

There will be variable cloud and clear spells, the wind will blow with a light and moderate breeze. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature will be around 36 degrees Celsius, while on Thursday it will reach 37 – 38 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures will range from 17 to 21 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists have issued new Code Yellow and Code Orange warnings of heat wave and severe heat discomfort, valid during Wednesday and Thursday in areas in most parts of the country.

ANM specialists say that on Friday, August 23, the heat wave will continue in the southern and southeastern regions, and at the end of the week will extend again in almost the entire country.

On the other hand, 11 counties in Banat, Crisana, Maramures and Transylvania will be under a Code Yellow warning of atmospheric instability until Thursday night at 02:00.

There will be torrential downpours, wind intensification (with gust speeds of 50 – 70 km/h), locally thunderstorms, lightning and isolated hail in the counties of Bistrita-Nasaud, Maramures, Satu Mare, Salaj, Cluj, Alba, Bihor, Arad, Hunedoara, Timis and Caras-Severin.

Water amounts will be 15 – 25 liters/mp and, in places, more than 40 – 50 liters/mp.

ANM said that such phenomena will be recorded in restricted areas and in mountainous areas in the rest of the country, and from the second part of the night from Wednesday to Thursday (August 21/22), the wind will temporarily intensify in the eastern and south-western regions.
