Calin Georgescu appears before judges after challenging extension of judicial review

Published on

Calin Georgescu arrived, on Wednesday morning, at the headquarters of the 1st District Court, where he filed a complaint a few days ago against the decision of the General Prosecutor’s Office to extend his judicial control measure in the file in which he is being criminally investigated for six crimes, including incitement to actions against the constitutional order.

A large Gendarmerie security force was deployed near the courthouse, and several dozen Georgescu supporters were also present.

On April 24, Călin Georgescu was summoned to the General Prosecutor’s Office to be informed of the extension of the judicial control measure for another 30 days.

As part of this measure, Călin Georgescu must report periodically to the Ilfov County Police Inspectorate and has several prohibitions, including not leaving the country without the approval of the judicial authorities and not being allowed to post content of a legionary, fascist, anti-Semitic, racist or xenophobic nature on social networks.

Georgescu is being prosecuted for committing six crimes, the most serious being that of inciting actions against the constitutional order, in an attempted form, being accused of having hatched a plan to destabilize Romania with the help of mercenaries led by Horaţiu Potra, after the Constitutional Court annulled the results of the first round of the presidential elections.

On March 9, the Central Electoral Bureau invalidated Calin Georgescu’s candidacy for the presidential election, citing the Constitutional Court’s decision of December 2024, which annulled the first round of elections.
