Calin Georgescu, an independent candidate running for the Romanian Presidency, submitted his bid to the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) on Tuesday, announcing having collected over 239,000 signatures.

„Today, October 1, 2024, on the Protection of the Mother of God, I am declaring the following: after 34 years of wandering, for the first time, the Romanian people will win these elections. My party is the Romanian people. And I say something more: my party is only the Romanian people, whom I love and serve and who will bring back the fellowship of honour and dignity – ours as people and ours as a nation, in order to understand that we need health, we need social tranquillity in these moments and, above all, for the moral construction of the human being, which is essential in these times,” he said in a statement to the press before the BEC headquarters.

Georgescu said that in order in collecting over 239,000 signatures he was supported by over ten thousand volunteers, whom he thanked for their involvement. At the same time, he said that this support makes him responsible in order to continue the steps started, to „change” the establishment.

„We are not changing the masters, but we are changing the establishment into an establishment that brings the fellowship of honour and dignity.”

He said that he was convinced that he would win the presidential election in the first round.
