Far right populist politician Calin Georgescu, whose presidential bid for the election this May got barred by the Central Electoral Bureau, thanked on Monday the Romanian people for their support and called for an end to street violence.
„We are moving forward together to the end, in pursuit of the same values – peace, democracy, freedom. I thank the Romanian people for everything they do, but please, once again, let everything be done in order and peacefully, in full knowledge of reality – we must not give rise to violence or other such behavior like what we witnessed yesterday evening. We are moving forward with great confidence for the future of this country,” Georgescu said in a video message.
He added that Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) and Young People’s Party (POT) leaders George Simion and Anamaria Gavrilă, who appeared at his side in the video, will continue to deal with everything related to political organization.
George Simon said that he stands by Georgescu.
„In the next two or three days when we must be highly active. Through unity we will get out of this impasse and we stand behind the most voted Romanian until the end,” Simion specified.
„We stand united, all three of us, working together and we will succeed together,” the POT leader also said.
The Central Electoral Bureau announced on Sunday evening that Calin Georgescu’s candidacy was rejected. The decision can be appealed at the Constitutional Court within 24 hours.
