Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu congratulated on Sunday evening in a post on X the leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU), Friedrich Merz, for winning the parliamentary elections.
„Good news from Germany, where the center is holding. Congratulations to @_FriedrichMerz @CDU for winning the parliamentary election and looking forward to continue the excellent cooperation with Romania’s most important commercial partner!,” Ciolacu wrote in his post.
Friedrich Merz’s conservatives won the legislative elections in Germany on Sunday, followed by the far-right party AfD, which achieved its best result in history, according to exit polls conducted by public television, AFP reports.
The conservatives from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its Bavarian wing, the Christian Social Union (CSU), received between 28.5% and 29% according to the polls broadcast by public TV stations ARD and ZDF, while Alternative for Germany (AfD) obtained 19.5% to 20%, an unprecedented result for a far-right party in a post-war federal election.
Friedrich Merz, who is likely to replace social democrat Olaf Scholz as chancellor, ruled out any government coalition with AfD, AFP brings to mind.
