The Social Democratic Party – National Liberal Party (PSD-PNL) alliance candidate for Bucharest City Hall, doctor Catalin Cirstoiu, said on Friday that, as far as he is concerned, he did nothing that would make him incompatible with running, noting that neither he, nor the press, just the National Integrity Agency (ANI) can issue a report on incompatibility.
„The first thing I want to tell you about the accusation of incompatibility: my opinion is that neither I nor the press, but only an institution can issue a report stating that, namely the National Integrity Agency. As far as I am concerned, I have not done anything that would make me incompatible,” Cirstoiu told a news conference before the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital.
He said that as a doctor, he also operated in other hospitals, noting that he offered his professional opinions and expertise to private facilities when asked.
Cirstoiu added that he helped his colleagues when they had a problem with patients.
Regarding his participation in examinations at the Anemone Clinic, he said that there he also helped his colleagues and responded to the requests of patients who needed his expertise.
According to him, patients choose for themselves which doctor they go to, choose for themselves also where they go, whether the public or the private healthcare system.
„You should also know that I wanted to do public administration in Bucharest, counting on stable political support in the General Council of Bucharest. I never wanted to do political administration in the capital city,” the PSD-PNL candidate added.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said that the first step to be taken by Cirstoiu is to hold a news conference to answer all the accusations against him, adding that one cannot „go further” if all these issues are not clarified.
On Thursday evening, PNL national leader Nicolae Ciuca said that the coalition decided to ask Cirstoiu for clarifications, and that it is normal for him to respect the request in this regard coming from Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
On Friday, Ciolacu said that Cirstoiu should have held a news conference to answer all the public accusations levelled against him.
