The Cluj Hungarian State Theatre will stage two shows in this year’s edition of the Theatre Olympics, April 19-22, in Budapest, write Agerpres.
„In April, the Cluj Hungarian State Theatre is invited to stage two shows in the 10th edition of the Theatre Olympics. Thus, between April 19-22, the show ‘Tinerii barbari’ (Young Barbarians) directed by Attila Vidnyanszky Jr will be performed four times at the Gobbi Hilda Hall of the Budapest National Theatre House. The production is also part of the playbill of the 9th edition of the Madach Imre International Theatre Festival (MITEM). Also on Thursday, April 27, at the Vigszinhaz in Budapest, the show ‘Macbett’ by Eugene Ionesco, directed by Silviu Purcarete, will be performed,” according to a press statement released by the theatre house on Tuesday.
It is the second time that the Cluj Hungarian State Theatre participates in this prestigious event, after the show „Rosmersholm” directed by Andriy Zholdak participated in the 2019 Theatre Olympics in Saint Petersburg.
„After the performances of April, the Miskolc-based National Theatre House will host the performances ‘Macbett’ and ‘Animal Farm.’ The participation in the Theatre Olympics will end with the co-production ‘Prometheus 22,’ which will be performed first in Budapest, at the Thalia Theatre House, and then at the Citadel of Gyula, in June. The Theatre Olympics is a drama festival designed in the spirit of tradition and modernity of the ancient Olympic Games. It was established in Greece in 1995, being initiated by renowned stage directors and playwrights from Greece, Japan, the US , Spain, the UK, Russia, Germany and Brazil.”
In the last two decades, the travelling festival has been organised in Delphi (Greece), Shizuoka (Japan), Moscow (Russia), Istanbul (Turkey), Seoul (South Korea), Beijing (China), Wroclaw (Poland), New Delhi (India) Saint Petersburg (Russia), and the 10th edition will take place in Hungary.
As part of the Theatre Olympics, the „Macbett” show is performed in Hungarian, with English subtitles.
In Cluj, all the performances of the Cluj Hungarian State Theatre House have Romanian and English surtitles.
