CNIR: 270 km of motorway and express road in tenders worth 38 billion RON in first 10 months of activity

The National Road Investment Company (CNIR) has started, in its first 10 months of activity, motorway and express road projects estimated at 38 billion RON, informs a post on the company’s Facebook page.

„Since the beginning of CNIR’s activity, in the first 10 months of its mandate (April 2024 – January 2025), the company’s executive management has started much-needed and long-awaited motorway and express road projects. Specifically, seven tenders have been launched for the construction of 270 kilometers of high-speed roads, contracts estimated at 38 billion RON (about 7.6 billion RON),” reads the post.

Thus, seven tenders published in SEAP for the design and execution of 270 kilometers of motorway and express road (five lots, with a length of 143 kilometers on the „Unirii” – A8 Targu Mures – Iasi – Ungheni motorway, in the process of submission or evaluation of bids) are underway, in different stages. Basically, to the five lots on the A8 are added the contracts for the construction of the Focsani – Braila and Bacau – Piatra Neamt express roads.

Also in progress are five tenders for the supervision of the design and execution works for four lots of the Unirii Motorway (A8), namely the supervision of the Focsani – Braila Express Road (worth over 300 million RON), the tender for the feasibility study „Bucharest – Giurgiu High Speed Road”, as well as the contract for the finalization of the Feasibility Study of the A13 Brasov – Bacau Motorway.

In addition to CNIR’s own projects, some objectives were taken over from the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR), especially those concentrated in the Moldavian area, projects to which „both colleagues from CNAIR and NGOs directly interested in road infrastructure development” contributed, specify CNIR representatives.

„Next, CNIR will take over other major road infrastructure objectives, objectives that will be included in the first strategy for the development of road transportation infrastructure of CNIR in the long, medium and short term, which will be adopted by the CNIR Board of Directors. We, at CNIR, also want to implement the projects as soon as possible, but all things must be done with technical and financial responsibility and in compliance with the deadlines set by the legislation,” said CNIR’s director general Gabriel Budescu in the post.
