The National Weather Administration (ANM) issued new Code Yellow weather alerts for cold weather and snow, valid in 18 counties in Transylvania, Crisana, Moldavia and Maramures, as well as in ten other counties in the south, including Bucharest.

According to the specialist forecast, from February 17 to 19, a Code Yellow alert affects the counties of Botosani, Iasi, Vaslui, Suceava, Neamt, Bacau, Maramures, Bistrita-Nasaud, Mures, Harghita, Covasna, Brasov, Sibiu, Alba, Cluj, Salaj, Satu Mare and Bihor, where the weather will be cold, with freezing temperatures during the nights and mornings. In the mountain areas of these regions, the minimum temperatures will generally range between -17 degrees and -10 degrees Celsius.

At the same time, the second Code Yellow alert will be valid from February 17, 10:00 AM, to February 19, 10:00 AM, in the counties of Ialomita, Calarasi, Giurgiu, Teleorman, Ilfov, Constanta, Olt, Arges, Prahova, Dambovita, and in the Municipality of Bucharest. In the affected areas, moderate snowfalls are expected, with a new snow layer forming, generally 15-25 cm thick.

In the eastern part of Olt County, the southern half of Arges, Dambovita and Prahova counties, and the western part of Constanta County, snow will fall and a new snow layer will accumulate, generally 10-15 cm thick. Temporarily, the wind will intensify, with speeds of up to 45 km/h, causing snowdrifts.

Additionally, from February 17, 10:00 AM, to February 19, 10:00 AM, there will be a weather advisory for snow, temporary wind intensifications, and freezing temperatures across the entire country. Snowfall will temporarily occur in the southern and southeastern regions, locally in the central part of the country and in restricted areas elsewhere. A new snow layer (10-20 cm) will accumulate and ice will form.

The wind will generally blow moderately on Monday in the southern part of the country (speeds of 30-40 km/h), while temporarily on the coast, it will intensify with gusts of 40-45 km/h. The weather will remain cold across all regions until the end of the week, with freezing nights and mornings expected in the northern part of the country and in depressions until Wednesday, then especially in the south and centre of the country.
