Confident PSD will get representative, influential portfolio for Romania in European Commission (MEP Negrescu)

Published on

Social Democratic Party (PSD) MEP Victor Negrescu, vice-president of the European Parliament, said on Saturday in Neptun that he is confident that the PSD will obtain a „representative, influential portfolio for Romania” in the future architecture of the European Commission, stressing that the European Socialists are strong supporters of Romania.

„I am convinced that, as things evolve in these negotiations on the shaping of the future European Commission, I am confident that the PSD will get a representative portfolio, influential for Romania, in the future architecture of the European Commission. The European Socialists are firm supporters of Romania, they have come out publicly saying that Romania deserves such a portfolio, that Romania can even hold an important office, that of vice-president of the European Commission, but for this to happen, we need the contribution of all, of all political forces in Romania, because only through consensus, only through dialogue, can we have a greater influence for the country, and I sincerely hope that this will happen,” said Negrescu, at the Summer European University, an event organized by PES Activists Romania in Neptun, Constanta County.

He added that PSD is today „Romania’s most influential political party” in the European Parliament.

„Today, we can speak of a success, a success of the Social Democratic Party, a genuinely pro-European party, which is today the most influential political party in Romania in the European Parliament, both in terms of the number of MEPs and the fact that today we hold the most influential and important seats in the European legislature. Today I am vice-president of the European Parliament and I am honoured to be able to represent Romania and the PSD at such a high level. But we also have committee chairperson, several vice-chairpersons of important committees in the European Parliament, we also have coordinators. We practically manage to make Romania’s voice better heard in Brussels. It is a source of pride, an important result, a victory for the Social Democratic Party and for what we have managed to build in recent years, with the support and obviously important contribution of the prime minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu,” said the PSD MEP.

At the same time, Victor Negrescu told the young people present at the event that there is a need for expertise and adaptation to everything that means the European and international context.

„We believe in expertise, in the need to adapt to the European and international context, we believe in solidarity. A person can achieve the change, a person is the one who determines his or her own future, we need competent people, we need to be united,” said the vice-president of the European Parliament.

The General Assembly and Summer University of PES Activists Romania are being held this weekend in Neptun, with the participation of dozens of members of the organisation from all over the country, as well as officials and PSD leaders.
