Construction volume drops 2.5 pct in H1

The volume of construction works in H1 2024 was 2.5 percent down YoY in unadjusted terms, and 2.2 percent higher expressed as workday and seasonally adjusted terms, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Tuesday.

The structural elements to go down in unadjusted terms were maintenance and current repair works (-4.7 pct), new construction works (-2.1 pct), and capital repair (-0.6 pct). By construction objects, the volume of residential buildings dropped 22.2 percent, that of non-residential buildings slid 2 percent, while the volume of engineering works picked up 7.6 percent.

Expressed as workday and seasonally adjusted series, the total volume of H1 construction works dropped 2.2 percent, as new construction works went down 3.1 percent, and current maintenance and repair works decreased 1.3 percent. Capital repair works advanced 2.8 percent. By construction objects, the volume of residential buildings decreased 21.8 percent, while engineering works and non-residential buildings increased 9.4 percent, and 0.2 percent respectively.

Month over month, the volume of construction works was 8.8 percent higher this June in unadjusted terms, due to growth in capital repair works (+24.4 pct), and new construction works (+10.1 pct). Conversely, maintenance and capital repair works decreased 1.7 percent.

By construction objects, there were increases in engineering works (+16.6 pct) and in non-residential buildings (+9.9 pct), while residential buildings decreased by 12.8 pct.

Expressed as workday and seasonally adjusted series, the volume of construction works increased 2.6 percent, with capital repair works advancing 13.5 percent, and new construction works going up 4.3 percent. On the other hand, maintenance and current repair works decreased 10.2 percent.

By construction objects, there was growth in the volume of engineering works (+2.4 percent) and non-residential buildings (+1.6 percent), while the volume of residential buildings dropped 14.2 percent.

Year-over-year, the volume of construction works was 6 percent down in unadjusted terms in June 2024, with maintenance and capital repair works decreasing 23.7 percent, and capital repair works seeing a 7.6 percent setback, while new construction works increased by 1.7 percent.

By construction objects, the volume of residential buildings fell 22.9 percent, that of non-residential buildings was 9.7 percent down, while engineering works increased by 2.6 percent.

Adjusted for business days and seasonality, construction works decreased by 0.4 percent overall. By structural elements, there was a decline in current repair works (-21.5 pct) and capital repair works (-4 pct), while new construction works increased by 7.9 pct.

By construction objects, the volume of engineering works advanced 5.8 percent, while residential and non-residential buildings decreased by 19.4, and 6.5 percent, respectively.
