The minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Stefan-Radu Oprea, stated, on Wednesday, that Damen Holding requested the insolvency of Damen Shipyards Mangalia, which „is not a bad thing” and can create opportunities, but the government must defend the interests of the state and Romanian employees.

„In the morning I had a meeting with the directorate and with the representatives of the Navalistul union from Damen. Damen Holding requested insolvency and that’s how the bankruptcy procedure is requested, but in fact it represents the insolvency of Damen Shipyards Mangalia, where they have the directorate and management with increased attributes, so somewhere inside Damen Holding, however, in the discussion I had with the management and the unions, I explained to them that, from my point of view, the insolvency procedure is not a bad thing either, because it can create opportunities. We have the example of Hidroelectrica, we have the example of Romaero, where things work until the end,” stated minister Oprea.

He added that there is the option of furlough for employees.
