The debate „Dimitrie Cantemir – a Romanian prince in the Europe of the Enlightenment” will take place on 21 August, from 6 pm, at the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in Stockholm. According to an ICR press release sent on Wednesday to AGERPRES, Stefan Lemny, former head of the history collections at the National Library of France, and Anna Svenbro, head of the Nordic Library at the Sainte-Genevieve Library in Paris, will talk about the cultural and historical legacy left by Dimitrie Cantemir in Europe and about new aspects of the poet’s echo in Swedish cultural and literary testimonies, write Agerpres.
„Author of essential works on Dimitrie Cantemir (1673 – 1723), Stefan Lemny will bring to the public’s attention the complex personality of the Romanian scholar throughout his peregrinations and will reflect the prince’s role as a pioneer in the various humanities.
To complete this picture of a humanist known in the European cultural space in the Age of the Enlightenment, Anna Svenbro will present several details about the echo of Dimitrie Cantemir’s contribution in Scandinavian sources,” says the source.
Organized by the ICR Stockholm, the event is held under the auspices of the Dimitrie Cantemir Cultural Year (2023) – 350 years since the birth and 300 years since the death of the great Romanian scholar.
