A C 27J Spartan aircraft of the Romanian Air Force took off on Thursday morning for Oslo, Norway, where it transported three patients and five relatives from the Gaza Strip, informs the Ministry of National Defence (MApN).
Other patients were transported to France, with aircraft of partner countries, and the rest are to receive specialized treatment in hospitals in Bucharest.
On Wednesday, a C-130 Hercules aircraft of the Romanian Air Force carried out a medical evacuation mission of 13 Palestinian patients from the Gaza Strip, seriously affected by the lack of access to adequate medical treatment, along with 34 family members, informed the Department for Emergency Situations.
Throughout the transport, medical assistance was provided by a team consisting of two doctors and two assistants from the Bucharest Emergency Clinical Hospital, and one doctor and one assistant from the MApN. Also, for the smooth conduct of the mission, two liaison officers from the DSU were also on board the aircraft.
Seven patients, of whom six are children – aged between 4 months and 11 years, respectively 1 adult of 18 years (accompanied by 23 relatives), will receive specialized treatment at several hospitals in Bucharest.
Three patients (along with 6 relatives) were transported to the French Republic, with two aircraft made available by the Luxembourg authorities.
The mission was executed following requests received from the Emergency Response Coordination Centre of the European Commission (ERCC), through CECIS, within the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
The operation was carried out in close collaboration between the Ministry of Interior, through the Department for Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, the Coordination Unit for Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), a unit within the Israeli Ministry of Defence, the National Emergency Medical Service, Disasters, Ambulance and Blood Bank ”Magen David Adom” from Israel, the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection of the Bucharest City Hall, Habitat for Humanity and other essential authorities to ensure an efficient and safe operation, the DSU specifies.
