The minister of National Defense, Angel Tilvar, had a conversation on Wednesday with the American Secretary of Defense, Lloyd J. Austin III, the discussions mainly focused on the security situation generated by Russia’s war of aggression and the unconditional support for Ukraine, being reiterated the importance of maintaining transatlantic units in the current security context.
„Along with the United States and its allies, Romania remains in full solidarity with Ukraine. We will continue to offer multidimensional support to back the Ukrainian defensive effort against Russian aggression. It is important that we continue to meet the needs of support together,” the Romanian minister of Defense said, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES.
According to the source, during the discussions it was reiterated the need to continue bilateral efforts in order to strengthen the Euro-Atlantic security and deepen the strategic partnership between Romania and the USA.
„The partnership with the United States is a priority for Romania and for the Ministry of National Defense. We continue to advance in the development of joint projects, thus strengthening the cooperation between our countries in the military field. We thanked the American Secretary of Defense for the consistent presence of American troops on the national territory,” said minister Tilvar, quoted in the press release.
The discussions between the two officials also provided the opportunity to debate some elements of interest in the preparation of the meeting of the Contact Group for Ukraine, which will take place on Friday, as well as the establishment of common objectives in view of the NATO Summit in Washington this summer.
Both the Romanian side and the American side reconfirmed the joint commitment to strengthen the deterrence and defense posture on the Eastern Flank of the North Atlantic Alliance.
