The Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, declared on Thursday that his orientation is pro-European, „rather Euro-Atlantic”, as he has a strong cultural and academic connection with the United States of America and he specified that he is not a sovereignist.

„My orientation is pro-European, rather Euro-Atlantic, because I have a strong cultural and academic connection with the United States of America. I was telling you that my Centre-Right orientation is clear, primarily through my option for excellence, meritocracy, but I was saying that I have various more left-wing attitudes on the inclusive line, especially in the area of health and education, because I don’t think it’s right to have sick people or to have children who can’t afford health services or educational services because they come from poor families. Furthermore, my option is center-right and that certainly confuses a lot of people, you see, in the public space. The most conservatives make me progressists, the progressists make me conservative,” the minister declared on the Ministry of Education’s Facebook account.

He specified that he is not a sovereignist, but he has respect for European, institutional sovereignty.

„Obviously I am not a sovereignist. I have respect for European, institutional sovereignty, which exists and has, how to say, its own legitimacy. (…) If I have to project myself in a certain way, I see myself rather as being on the line of a Romanian patriotism that sees a sovereign Romania in a Euro-Atlantic space”, said Daniel David.
