Eight of 18 Palestinian patients brought from the Gaza Strip to Romania on Wednesday evening were flown to Norway on a Spartan aircraft, the Ministry of National Defense (MApN) informs.
„A C-27J Spartan aircraft belonging to the Romanian Air Force took off on Wednesday evening, April 9, to Oslo, Norway, with eight patients on board and 13 relatives of those who returned from Israel that same evening. Other patients were flown to Malta and Luxembourg by aircraft of partner states in the European Union, and four, together with eight relatives, stayed back in Romania for medical care,” MApN reported on Thursday.
MApN added that 18 patients and 29 family members were brought to Romania from Israel on Wednesday evening, on a C-130 Hercules aircraft belonging to it. During the flights, the medical assistance was provided by UPU-SMURD doctors and nurses from the Bucharest Emergency Clinical Hospital and MApN.
The missions were carried out at the request of the Department for Emergency Management in response to a request from the European Commission’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC), through the Common Emergency Communication and Information System (CECIS), within the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
Romania’s Foreign Ministry (MAE) says that this was the third support mission carried out this year for the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, with a total of over 40 patients and about 90 relatives being transported.
