EnerMin Burduja: Unprecedented investments represent true energy sovereignty

Published on

Unprecedented investments represent true energy sovereignty and there is only one way for Romania’s energy independence, as far as possible from the clutches of the ‘experts’ in energy blackmail from the East, believes the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja.

„Last year, Romania became the largest gas producer in the EU for the first time. The credit goes to ROMGAZ, which increased its production after unprecedented investments. This is true energy sovereignty: facts for an energy-independent Romania, a vector of regional stability, a provider of energy security,” Burduja wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.

According to him, one of the strategic investments is in Caragele, Buzau County. In 2024, production at Caragele was 22.48% higher than in 2023, thus becoming the second largest field in terms of share in Romgaz’s total production (6.6% of total Romgaz production), the minister said.

Last year, investment works worth 147 million RON were carried out at Caragele, the main ones being: drilling and commissioning of the 100 Caragele well in 75 days (a speed record for Romgaz) and the 78 Rosetti Side Track well; performing repair operations in five wells, resulting in an increase in production; developing the feasibility study for the exploitation of the wells in the Rosetti & Damianca area in order to expand the surface infrastructure for future wells (eight wells); putting the 55 Damianca well into production, through a temporary installation; starting drilling works at the 76 Rosetti well.

At well 54 Damianca, the drilling rig is in progress. Actual drilling will begin at the end of May.

For the development of the Caragele Deep project, namely the evaluation of already discovered accumulations, the identification of new accumulations and their exploitation, Romgaz will continue to carry out investment works for the drilling of new deep wells and the development of an infrastructure expansion project.

„For all these projects, Romgaz will invest over 1.3 billion RON from its own sources. I congratulate the management and the entire Romgaz team for all these remarkable progress. They are true professionals and I thank them for all their work. Major projects in the energy sector need continuity. Things have finally started, in recent years, to move forward. And this is a strategic stake for the elections in a week’s time. There is only one path for Romania’s energy independence, as far away as possible from the clutches of the ‘experts’ in energy blackmail from the East. This path is European Romania,” Burduja wrote at the end of the post.
