EnerMin:Those involved in energy transport and distribution may not have anticipated development of renewable sources

Published on

Those who are involved in the transmission and distribution networks may not have succeeded or correctly anticipated the development of renewable production sources and now it is very important that the investment works in the networks find their completion, the Secretary of State claims from the Ministry of Energy, Dan-Dragos Dragan.

He thus answered a question regarding the problems related to the overloading of the electrical network, addressed in a specialized conference organized within the Energy Expo 2024.

„Unfortunately, those who are involved in these transport and distribution networks may not have succeeded or correctly anticipated this development of renewable production sources, distributed throughout Romania, in small sources, distributed to domestic consumers or even to industrial consumers. At the same time, I am convinced that they will face the challenges, and in order to face these challenges, approximately two billion euros are signed, of which 550 million euros are for the transport network – the closing of the 400 kilovolt circuit, at the same time new transformation stations – digitization and new interconnection lines at the level of the transport operator – and 1.3 billion euros are money allocated to the distribution operators. They have already started their implementation programs and I am convinced that the implementation and construction of new fully digital energy transport and transfer stations will be able to face the challenges. On the other hand, we have to look at the fact that the energy sector is also going through a deep transformation, for example how the banking sector went through. We cannot go back, today, to cancel the payment applications on the mobile phone for the sake of having more branches, more allocated resources and an interaction, probably, between participants in the „face to face” market,” said Dragan.

In this context, the state secretary from the Ministry of Energy stated that it is very important that the investment works in the networks find their completion.

„At the same time, through a good collaboration with our colleagues from the National Energy Regulatory Authority, we saw the remuneration scheme for investments and additional investments that distributors can make and must make according to the investment plan in the next regulatory period, they are additionally motivated to attract resources and make investments in these networks. There are already works started from the contracts we signed with the four distributors these contracts that are launched by the distribution companies on SEAP to find their completion. Works are for all companies in this field. I was pleased to meet and find out that there are so many works that I cannot cope with , which means that there will be an increasing competition in this sector. This transformation started five to ten years ago in the more developed states of Western Europe, and it was obvious that this pressure (on the energy distribution networks, n.r.) would also reach Romania,” emphasized the official from the Ministry of Energy.

More than 300 exhibitors are present, between October 10 and 13, at the first edition of the Energy Expo event, organized in the Hala Laminor in Bucharest, on an exhibition area of 30,000 square meters.

The companies participating in the stands cover all types of energy, respectively all segments of the energy market – from photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal systems, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), wind – onshore & offshore wind and energy storage systems energy to solutions for industrial control and automation, infrastructure and technologies (smart grids, data center solutions, etc.), smart cities and buildings, as well as energy efficiency, AI & digitization or clean fuels (eg: biogas, bioethanol, LNG, CNG).
