A team of 30 experts, a ship and two boats from the Jiu branch of the Romanian Waters Authority – the Mehedinti Water Management System are currently intervening with 1,450 kg of decontamination substances and 50 metres of absorbing floating dam to reduce the pollution wave on the Danube and stop its spread downstream, informs the „Romanian Waters” National Authority (ANAR), according to Agerpres.
According to the updated data, the action takes place in the sector downstream of Portile de Fier I [Iron Gates ], between km 941 (Gura Vaii) and km 925 (Simian). At the same time, the members of the Cujmir task force moved downstream and upstream of Portile de Fier II to check the area.
„Our teams will intervene until the pollution is stopped and the affected areas are restored,” states thesame source.
The authorities identified, on Tuesday, the oil iridescence on the Danube, which stretches from river kilometre 936 to the Portile de Fier I hydropower plant lock.
