The main facade of the Palace of Parliament, facing Constitution Square, will be illuminated on Tuesday, starting at 20:30, in the colours of the Romanian and German flags, to mark the day of friendship between the two countries.

„The illumination of the Palace of Parliament building in the colours of the flags of the two countries is taking place at the proposal of two MPs belonging to the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities, namely Ovidiu Victor Gant (MP FDGR – Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania) and Silviu Vexler (MP FCER – Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania). The event is part of the activities organised in accordance with Law no. 79 of 4 April 2024 for the establishment of 21 April as „Friendship Day between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany”,” informs a press release sent by the Chamber of Deputies to AGERPRES.

According to the cited source, on 21 April 1992 Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany concluded the Treaty on Friendly Cooperation and Partnership in Europe, the first such treaty between Romania and an EU and NATO member state. The Treaty has become the foundation for the development of bilateral relations between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany in the political, economic, social and cultural spheres, conducted at high level – Presidency, Parliament, Government.

„This symbolic gesture will be an excellent opportunity to reiterate and develop the strong friendly relationship between the two countries, it will reaffirm the special and dynamic character of the partnership between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany and, at the same time, it will highlight the essential contribution of the Romanian Parliament to the consolidation of these essential relations for our country,” said Ovidiu Victor Gant and Silviu Vexler in their proposal to illuminate the Palace of Parliament in the colours of the flags of the two countries.
