Romanian athlete Sabina Martis won the silver medal in the women’s individual saber event, after she was defeated in the final by the Bulgarian Ioana Ilieva, 15-8, on Thursday, at the European Fencing Championships Under- 23 in Budapest, write Agerpres.
The bronze medals were obtained by Polish Zuzanna Cieslar, defeated in the semifinals by Martis, 15-14, and by Hungarian Anna Spiesz, defeated in the penultimate act by Ilieva, 15-6.
Tania Lutea ranked 21st, Ilinca Pantis ranked 27th, and Maria Matei 30th.
Swiss Sven Vineis came out the absolute winner in the men’s epee event, after scoring 15-13 in the final against the Frenchman Gaetan Billa. The bronze medals went to the Estonian Ilian Bobrov and Italian Giulio Gaetani.
Romania’s Alex Oroian ranked 39th, Marton Mezinger 66th, Szabolcs Szabo finished 69th, and Florin Mirica ranked 76th.
Romania has so far won three medals in the U23 European Championships, one gold through Radu Nitu and two silver, through Alexandru Zmau and Sabina Martis, all in saber.
