The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, announced on Monday that, for the European Parliament elections on June 9, the Foreign Ministry (MAE) would organize over 900 polling stations, the largest number of polling stations ever organized abroad, almost double compared to the 2019 election.
Luminita Odobescu held a press conference, together with the president of the Permanent Electoral Authority, Toni Grebla, on the topic of organizing elections for the European Parliament abroad.
„We will organize, through the diplomatic missions and consular offices of Romania abroad, a number of over 900 polling stations, 916 to be exact, almost double the 471 organized in the 2019 European Parliament elections. It is, at the same time, the largest number of polling stations ever organized abroad, over the previous maximum of 835 stations organized in the 2019 presidential elections,” said Odobescu.
She emphasized that the proposals and estimates of diplomatic missions and consular offices of Romania for the organization of polling stations abroad are based on both the dynamics of attendance at previous elections, as well as consultations with representatives of communities of Romanian citizens abroad, as well as with representatives from the diaspora of political parties.
The head of Romanian diplomacy stated that she requested that the diplomatic missions communicate the necessary human resources to ensure the smooth functioning of the electoral process in the polling stations, after the political formations designate their representatives in the stations.
She appealed to the Romanian citizens abroad to be actively involved in the good organization of the electoral processes, as members and/or computer operators of the electoral offices of the polling stations.
